About mountaineering in Italy’s Gran Paradiso
Discovering the deep valleys of Valle d’Aosta, this wild and alpine tour ends on a high note with the ascent to the summit of Gran Paradiso, culminating at over 4000 m.
Walking from hut to hut while remaining constantly in the mountains makes this trip an alpine reference.
The discovery of Valle d’Aosta culture and the observation of animals and flora make this trek one of the most beautiful in the Alps.

Day 2: Savoia to Benevolo
5 hours 30 mins walk – Overnight in refuge – D+: 500 m / D-: 750 m
For this new alpine day, there are several routes to choose from, depending on the weather conditions. We’ll make sure you get to the Benevolo hut at the top of the Val de Rhême in the safest and most pleasant way possible.
Ideally, you’ll pass over the Basei pass at over 3,000 m, where you’ll be able to enjoy a breathtaking view.
Day 3: Benevolo to Bezzi
6 hours 30 mins walk – Overnight in refuge without luggage – D+: 800 m / D-: 800 m
In the early morning, from the refuge, you’ll quickly gain height to reach the suspended valley at the foot of Col Bassac Déré.
You’ll have the chance to admire the Val d’Isère resort below you, before crossing a mineral landscape to reach your cosy Bezzi refuge.
Day 4: Towards Val d'Aoste via the Col de Fenêtre
It’s a beautiful day, varied between alpine pastures and mountain lakes. First we descend the valley along the Dora di Valgrisenche, before climbing up towards the refuge de l’Epée, then the Col de Fenêtre (2840m). We then begin the descent to Rhême Notre Dame, in Val d’Aoste, for a restful night.
Day 5: Panoramic view of the summit of Grand Paradis
You’ll climb to the Col d’Entrelor at an altitude of 3,000 m, where the view of the north face of Grand Paradis is magnificent. Admire the summit, which you’ll soon be climbing. Then it’s downhill along the Djouan lakes and through a larch forest to Valsavarenche.
Day 6: Eaux Rousses to Chabod
This day, you’ll reach the Chabod hut along the traditional path between forests and alpine pastures.
In the afternoon, you can relax, recharge your batteries, explore the area around the refuge and be briefed by our guide for the ascent to the Grand Paradis summit.
Day 7: Ascent of Grand Paradis and descent
On to the final objective of this trek! You’ll set off at night on the moraine above the refuge.
Under a rising sun, you put on your crampons to quickly reach the summit. After a moment out of time, with stars in your eyes, you’ll descend via the Victor Emmanuel hut to reach Pont by mid-afternoon.
