Day 1: Ascent to Savoia

3 hours’ walk – Overnight in refuge without luggage – D+: 700 m / D-: 100 m

You meet at 11:30 am at the hamlet of Pont in the Valsavarenche region of Italy. Departure briefing and loading of your belongings, which you will return to during your stay.

The trek begins with a gentle climb up to the Nivolet valley on an old mule track, before an easy trail takes you to the refuge.

Day 2: Savoia to Benevolo

5 hours 30 mins walk – Overnight in refuge D+: 500 m / D-: 750 m

For this new alpine day, there are several routes to choose from, depending on the weather conditions. We’ll make sure you get to the Benevolo hut at the top of the Val de Rhême in the safest and most pleasant way possible.

Ideally, you’ll pass over the Basei pass at over 3,000 m, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views.

Day 3: Alpine day via Bassac Déré pass

6 hours 30 mins walk – Overnight in refuge without luggage – D+: 800 m / D-: 800 m

In the early morning, from the refuge, you’ll quickly gain height to reach the suspended valley at the foot of Col Bassac Déré (3083m).

You’ll have the chance to admire the Val d’Isère resort below you, before crossing a mineral landscape to reach your cosy Bezzi refuge.

Day 4: Towards the typical refuge de l'Épée

4 hours’ walk – Overnight in refuge with luggage – D+: 510 m / D-: 430 m
Today you’re off for a beautiful day on a balcony offering a wide variety of mountain pastures and lakes. You’ll arrive at the refuge de l’Epée for a pleasant evening in a typical Valle d’Aosta building.

Day 5: Col de Fenêtre to Bruil

4 hours 30 mins walk – Overnight in hostel with luggage – D+: 500 m / D-: 1100 m

Today you’ll be climbing the Col de Fenêtre (2840m), passing a pretty lake. You then begin the descent through magnificent alpine meadows to Rhêmes Notre Dame, also known as Bruil, a typical Val d’Aoste village.

Day 6: Panoramic day on Grand Paradis

6 hours 30 mins walk – Overnight in hostel with luggage – D+: 1300 m / D-: 1300 m

Today you’ll set off in the direction of the Col de l’Entrelor (3007m), then begin the descent dotted with lakes, with Grand Paradis as a backdrop: the panorama is breathtaking! You’ll arrive in the small village of Eaux-Rousses at the end of the day, where you’ll spend the night.

Day 7: Return to Pont

4 hours 30 mins walk – D+: 900 m / D-: 600 m – Return transfer optional

A final day’s drive takes you to Pont via the alpine pastures of Meyes and its dry-stone buildings.

End of the hike in the early afternoon.

ASSISTANCE AND SAFETY

We strongly advise you to take out assistance insurance for the duration of your trip.

We offer two different types of insurance: Comfort Cancellation and Comfort Multirisk, to be taken out when you register for your trip.

Other offers include Mondial Assistance, your own insurance company or Club Alpin Français. Check that your trekking activity is covered.

Make sure your insurance covers all medical expenses in the event of an accident.

You must make sure that you are covered for mountain rescue costs. If this is the case, you must provide us with the following information before you set off on your trek:

  • a certificate from the insurance company covering mountain rescue costs.
  • the contract number and telephone number of the assistance center

Beware of restrictive clauses in certain insurance policies (particularly those linked to Visa Premier, Gold or other cards), such as mountain insurance limited to snow activities, or altitude sickness not recognized as an illness requiring repatriation, which will be refused.

Please check the actual content of your insurance and take the necessary steps if necessary.

Health & climate

CLIMATE

The climate is much the same as in the French Alps: summer days are hot and temperatures drop considerably at night.

HEALTH AND VACCINES

No vaccinations required.

We strongly recommend that you are up to date with the usual vaccinations: diphtheria-tetanus-poliomyelitis, whooping cough, tuberculosis, typhoid fever, hepatitis A and B.

We recommend that you have a check-up with your dentist before you leave.

Transport and conditions

Meet at 11:30 am in Pont, Valsavarenche, Italy, at the parking lot at the end of the road in front of the Gran Paradiso hotel.

Transfers as indicated in the description are included in the price of the stay.

We can organize your transfers to and from Pont: optional and on request.

LUGGAGE

You carry your gear for the day. We take the rest of your gear to the refuge each day, except on day 1.
