About the Grand Tour du Queyras trekking tour
Explore the wild highlands of Queyras, a secret massif in the sun-drenched Southern Alps.
The historic hiking trails make it possible to complete a Grande Boucle in the midst of sumptuous and varied scenery every day.
Suspended mountain pastures, rocky peaks, high Alpine passes and ancient villages set the scene for this unique itinerary in one of France’s highest valleys. The explosion of flowers in early season and the wealth of wildlife will greet your daily efforts!

Day 1: Morning meeting in Ceillac
You’ll meet your guide in Ceillac at 8:30am for the start of this Grand Tour.
You’ll pass over the Col des Estronques to reach your first summit: the Tête de la Jacquette (2757 m). Quite a program! You’ll already enjoy the first views over the Queyras valleys.
You’ll then descend the mountainside to reach Saint-Véran, France’s highest commune, and spend the evening and night in the village.
Day 2: A first "3000"
5 hours’ walk – Overnight in refuge – D+ 1060 m / D- 560 m
From the village, discover the magnificent cirque overlooking the Refuge de la Blanche and climb the Pic de Caramantran (3025 m), straddling the border between France and Italy. The view is breathtaking: 360° of contrasting, distant landscapes.
The short descent takes you to the Agnel refuge along a beautiful wild trail.
Day 3: Sugar Loaf assault
5 hours’ walk – Overnight in gîte – D+ 590 m / D- 1450 m
From the Agnel refuge, you quickly reach the Col Vieux. From here, you branch off in the direction of Pain de Sucre (3210 m) and climb it. The view is distant, deep and unforgettable.
You’ll then descend quietly to lakes Foréan and Egorgéou before reaching the small hamlet of La Monta and its gîte for the night.
Day 4: Views of the French-Italian border
Today, you’ll set off on the classic path towards the Lauzière before branching off onto the beautiful border ridge of the Tête de Pelvas at 2929 m.
Once again, you’ll be able to contemplate the scenery on either side of the Franco-Italian border. Finally, you’ll descend to Le Roux d’Abriès and your accommodation for the evening.
Day 5: Passes and lakes
If you’ve enjoyed the previous hikes, this one is sure to be one of the finest in the Queyras. On wild trails winding between three passes to climb, you’ll enjoy pushing yourself to the limit!
A spectacular variation takes you to the Pic du Malrif (2906 m), with its breathtaking views of the lakes below. Depending on the group’s fitness, you can climb Grand Glaiza (3293 m) before descending to the Fonts de Cervières refuge, where you’ll spend the evening and night.
Day 6: Day trip to the Péas valley
On this sixth stage, you’ll climb to the Col de Péas (2629 m) via a series of narrow paths lined with flowers. After reaching the pass, you’ll descend into the Péas valley to the charming village of Souliers, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 7: Lac de Roue to Refuge de Furfande
Today, the small Lac de Roue will be the first reward before setting off for the Arvieux valley.
The climb to the Col de Furfande (2500 m) is a beautiful one.
Finally, the Furfande refuge is just a stone’s throw away, and you’ll enjoy discovering the many barns that dot the alpine pastures. Your last evening in the mountains couldn’t be more magical!
Day 8: And the circle is complete
This Grand Tour du Queyras is coming to an end, but first you’ll enjoy one last great day of walking!
The day begins with a descent to the beautiful Pont de Bramousse.
This is your final pass, the Col de Bramousse (2251 m). Enjoy the view. You’ll catch a glimpse of Ceillac below, which will give you an idea of just how far you’ve come!
Finally, the last descent to the village in the late afternoon. You’ll have a chance to catch up with the group one last time. We’re sure you’ll have plenty of memories to take back home with you.

ASSISTANCE AND SAFETY
We strongly advise you to take out assistance insurance for the duration of your trip.

Make sure your insurance covers all medical expenses in the event of an accident.
You must make sure that you are covered for mountain rescue costs. If this is the case, you must provide us with the following information before you set off on your trek:
- a certificate from the insurance company covering mountain rescue costs.
- the contract number and telephone number of the assistance center
Beware of restrictive clauses in certain insurance policies (particularly those linked to Visa Premier, Gold or other cards), such as mountain insurance limited to snow activities, or altitude sickness not recognized as an illness requiring repatriation, which will be refused.
Please check the actual content of your insurance and take the necessary steps if necessary.
Health & climate
CLIMATE
Temperatures vary according to altitude. It can reach 30°C in summer on the plains, or sub-zero on the summits.
Summer thunderstorms are common in the French Alps.
HEALTH AND VACCINES
No vaccinations required.
We strongly recommend that you are up to date with the usual vaccinations: diphtheria-tetanus-poliomyelitis, whooping cough, tuberculosis, typhoid fever, hepatitis A and B.
We recommend that you have a check-up with your dentist before you leave.

Transport and conditions
Any travel during the trek is included in the price, except for transport to and from the meeting point on the first and last day.
For an additional fee, we can arrange transportation to and from the start and/or finish of the trek. Contact us or let us know your requirements when booking.
LUGGAGE
Luggage transfer between accommodation sites is provided by our team during the trek, except on day 7.
The stay
MEALS
Picnics for lunch are ordered from the refuges or made up of local produce bought en route in the villages. Evening and morning meals are taken in refuges, gîtes or inns.
Snacks are provided, but you can also bring your own.
If you have a special diet, please let us know as soon as possible.
ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation in gites, inns or refuges in shared dormitories.
TRAINING
Supervision by a state-qualified French mountain leader.
